Cuban Music

When talking about Cuba the music, dance, colors, and a rich culture come to mind. Before embarking on a trip, immersing oneself in the local culture is essential, with music being the first on the list. Rumba and Salsa will captivate your ears and leave a lasting impression on your heart. You can easily find small groups performing on the streets, dance schools, and music emanating from every house. The infectious rhythm brings joy throughout the city. If you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you may even have the opportunity to dance with incredible Cuban dancers at events and dance evenings.

In addition to the classic “Guantanamera,” we recommend a song that embodies the spirit of Cuba: “Palante” by Arnaldo y su Talisman. During our trip, we had the pleasure of meeting several musicians, and we highly recommend listening to their songs on streaming platforms. With a little luck, you might even catch them performing live. One such group is called Clo Inspiracion.

Cuban Cuisine

When it comes to Cuban cuisine, rice and black beans are staples found in most Cuban homes, and they are absolutely delicious. Breakfast is considered the best meal of the day, featuring tropical fruits freshly picked from nearby trees, refreshing juices, and Cuban coffee. Pineapple, guava, guanaba, avocado, and banana take center stage, offering a colorful and fresh culinary experience before your explorations begin. For lunch or dinner, the malanga soup stands out as a dish filled with nostalgia. It is a simple soup made with angel hair pasta and a tuber, similar to a potato, that is common in Caribbean countries. Restaurants offer meat dishes like ropa vieja, a flavorful meat dish with tomato sauce and peppers. The cuisine varies across different regions, with coastal areas offering more fish-based diets due to their reliance on fishing, while inland areas predominantly feature tubers and rice. Meat and fish are reserved for special occasions. If possible, try to sample local products to truly savor the authenticity of the place.
