There are many ways to travel around Spain, and we have experienced some. We did a road tour in the south of Spain from Alicante to Malaga. We spent a month in the tranquility of a small village in the hills of Valladolid and we visited cities like Vigo, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

Tips and Tricks to Make the Most Unforgettable Trip

Here are some tips to make the most of a trip to Spain:

To enter Spain, you do not need a passport if you are an EU citizen. No vaccination is required if you already have the mandatory ones, but always check the government website before leaving for any country-specific risks.

The currency of the country is the euro, which is easy and intuitive to exchange within the country. You can withdraw cash directly from the bank or use numerous exchange services in the cities.

  1. It is advisable to travel light and use a backpack to move easily in large cities and integrate with the local population.
  2.  Be cautious, as there may be people who will try to take advantage of your naivety. If you rent a car, document its initial condition with photos and videos, and do the same when you return it to avoid any disputes.
  3.  Opt for local and typical accommodations to have unforgettable experiences with the local population.
  4. While it is easy to communicate in English in large cities, learning some Spanish phrases can be helpful in rural villages.
  5. Spain is a favorite destination for tourists, especially in summer. Avoid high season periods to have an authentic country experience and not a fight against overtourism.
  6. Spanish cuisine is delicious, and to taste the real flavors, it is better to look for restaurants outside the center of big cities and ask for advice from the local population.

Responsible Tourism

As with all our destinations, our main goal is to inform you about making conscious choices even during holidays and trips. Articles related to responsible tourism are the beating heart of this blog, and although short, they always contain great content.

Traveling extensively in Spain, we noticed how tourist cities have become targets of a phenomenon that goes beyond normal tourism. It has become a collection of experiences to showcase on social media. As you can see from our Instagram, the space dedicated to tourist attractions is very limited because we want to encourage you to discover new places that are less romantic and more authentic.

Enjoy your trip without focusing solely on ticking off a list of attractions. While we are proactive in promoting cultural trips, encompassing history, culture, architecture, and science, we want to remind you that culture is all around us, not just inside the Sagrada Familia. We are not discouraging you from visiting destinations of culture and history, but only suggesting that they should not be the sole focus of your holiday. Understand the importance of experiencing the local culture, as they are the true heritage of a country, often overshadowed by tourism that stifles the local population.

Lastly, we would like to remind you that while traveling extensively in Europe, we have noticed how much the prices of museums, monuments, churches, and historic buildings have disproportionately increased, leaving out a large portion of travelers who cannot afford an unlimited budget.
