Tips and tricks for a great trip

To enter The Netherlands, you do not need a passport if you are an EU citizen. No vaccination is necessary if you already have the mandatory ones, but always check before leaving on the government website for any risks in the country.

The currency of the country is the Euro (EUR). You can withdraw directly from the bank or use numerous exchange services in the cities, for non EU citizens. When we were in The Netherlands in some places they did non accept mastercards for some reason so be aware of which cards you bring with you.

Here are some last tips before you leave:

  • We recommend traveling light and using a backpack to move easily in large cities and blend in with the local population.
  • Be cautious, as there may be people who will try to take advantage of your naivety. If you rent a car or a bike, document its initial condition with photos and videos, and do the same when you return it to avoid any disputes.
  • Opt for local and typical accommodations to have unforgettable experiences with the local population.
  • As the majority of the population in The Netherlands speaks English there won’t be any problem, but try learning a few phrases in Dutch they will be pleased about that.

The Netherlands have two airports, Schiphol in Amsterdam and the other one in Eindhoven. We recommend traveling with local transportation as it is frequent, precise, well covers the territory and it is a much more sustainable choice than renting a car. But we recommend renting a bike and traveling with it instead so you can see and explore by mixing trains and bikes.

Do not miss to visit Amsterdam, Leiden, Utrecht, Den Hague and Rotterdam but do not forget to stop in the small towns and villages as they might unveil some little gems. Also Terschelling islands are a really good spot with very wide beaches on the north sea.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism is crucial. There is a housing crisis in The Netherlands that fueled the rising prices for house rental and hotels, choose wisely where you sleep. Please be mindful when visiting The Netherlands especially Amsterdam, as we all know about what is allowed, be always respectful and do not search for the excess. Not only do this for yourself but also for every other tourist and the people living in The Netherlands.
